About us

The Civil Society Working Group for the 2030 Agenda (WG 2030 Agenda) works to transform the signed intentions into effective actions in the daily life of the country. The group was formed from the understanding that both the definition and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should take into account the background of civil society organizations that have been working directly on advocacy, on the respect to the limits of the planet and on the fight against inequality.

The WG 2030 Agenda became official on September 9, 2014 and is the result of the constant meeting between Brazilians non-governmental organizations, social movements, forums and foundations during the follow-up to the Post-2015 Agenda negotiations and their developments. Since then, it works on the spread, promotion and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda and aims to publicize the ODS, mobilize the civic society and focus politically on the Brazilian government and United Nation’s system to its implementation.

The Agenda 2030 WG is the result of the intense process around negotiations on the new global goals, based on a national articulation led by Abong and developed in partnership with several civil society organizations already engaged in the process, which culminated in the approval of Agenda 2030, during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development at the 70th United Nations General Assembly.

The Agenda 2030 WG has around 40 members from different sectors that together cover all areas of the Agenda 2030’s 17 SDGs. The group focuses on the Brazilian State and multilateral organizations, especially the United Nations (UN), promoting sustainable development, the fight against inequalities and injustices and the strengthening of universal and indivisible rights, based on the full involvement of civil society in all decision-making spaces.

The Agenda 2030 WG communicates and highlights the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals and the potential impact of their implementation on people and territories. It also gathers, analyzes and produces contents that inform their incidence and social control actions, including the annual production of the Light Report.

The 2030 WG also acts on the development funding agenda set out in the Addis Ababa Consensus.
